STUDY TOUR AT NARUNYU (25/10/12) (PIC AND EXPLANATION)

Today we had another journey with student of certificate from stream B. In this tour student were accompanied by Mr Chihwhalo, Mrs Shomari, Mr Mlanzi and Mr Nangameta, and student were very comfotable as all of them sat in the three minibus hired by them as a part of transport. The purpose of this tour is to get familiar with    how agriiculture centre of Narunyu perfom its several activities of Agriculture. Student had the  opportunity to learn and see exactly what they have been taught, as well as to get new skills in practicals.

Agriculture centre of Narunyu has both livestock and crops production , and it has got several tools which are used in production such as chopping machine, tractors, abotours and sealage house. Student  spent much of their time to learn new things and to retrieve materials which they learnt from MATI-Mtwara.

Narunyu Saint Mary has 2500 hectares whereby both livestock and crop production projects are implemented. They have 630 cattles for meat production and 50 cattle for milk production. For milk cattle have the ability to produce 150 litres of milk per day, and sent to Lindi region to several customers. These project helps this institute to increase income, to have food security as well as to help society around them.

Peace of advice were given out to students upon how to establish projects like of those kind. For establishing new project such as rising livestock for milk production one has to consider water resources, food (feeds) and market. Water and food helps toward initial production, whereas market helps in income generation so as to attain economic gain. Some of the profit is used as scholarship to sisters who need further education and some is saved into bank account.

Problems which face this institute includes: some of their animal got killed (19 cattle killed last time) along the road during grazing time, and some time occurence of foot and mouth desease  cause the loss of these animal.

Students asked so many questions and responded well to the answer which had been provided. This tour is much valuable to them as they can learn as well as see, its better for their memory as they can retrive what they learn much easier, than if they learn without practice.
